Conditions like atrial fibrillation (A.F.), cryptogenic stroke, and syncope are sources of discomfort for a wide array of individuals globally. Advancements in technology to determine the occurrence of arrhythmia has paved the way for the development of an Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM)

The Insertable Cardiac Monitor has been developed by Boston Scientific LUX-Dx ICM System and is equipped with a dual-stage algorithm that detects and verifies potential arrhythmias before alerting the clinician. The algorithm has been programmed to remotely identify atrial fibrillation, rhythm pause, bradycardia, and tachycardiac episodes. Additionally, the device can also detect arrhythmias every time the threshold or parameters are exceeded.

Moreover, the technology can support patients’ follow-up of electrophysiology procedures through remote monitoring. LUX-Dx ICM is predicted to improve the performance efficiency of medical teams.

After reviewing the device’s functionality, Lydia Bradley, lead psychologist & ACP at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, England, made the following statement,

We had the opportunity to be one of the first in the U.K. to implant the LUX-Dx ICM. Signals at the implant have provided great sensing and amplitude of P and fibrillation waves. Patients have been happy and confident with the ease of setup and use of their patient phones.

Functionality specifications of LUX-Dx ICM

Once LUX-Dx ICM System has been implanted, a mobile device preloaded with the MyLUX app is given to the client. The application connects via Bluetooth to their ICM device. The application has been configured to transmit data daily or as required to the LATITUDE Clarity Data Management System. It will help physicians and care teams with timely access to critical information.

The LUX-Dx ICM System has CE Marks in Europe. Moreover, it also holds a clearance certificate from U.S Food and Drug Administration.

With the LUX-Dx Clinic Assistant app and myLUX-Dx Patient app, the clinical workload for physicians would be drastically reduced. Furthermore, the application would help empower clients and improve compliance.

The advanced technology integrated into the device would allow for viable time consumption. Additionally, one would only need a singular device to connect to and integrate all LUX-Dx ICM devices. This would thereby minimize the need for extra equipment. The maximized approach towards efficiency is an excellent advantage of this device.
