Two shots of the COVID-19 vaccine in one day almost kills a man!
The new vaccines developed for COVID-19 have so far been quite efficient in warding off infection. However, given, that two doses of the vaccine are necessary to confer adequate immunity. CDC recommends that the second dose of the vaccine be given in no more than 6 weeks between the doses. Depending on the vaccine, the time period in between varies from 3 to 4 weeks. Moreover, it is also recommended that the second dose should not be given before this time, as it can cause an adverse reaction. In a similar case, a 91-year-old man went into shock after receiving two COVID-19 vaccines in a day.
The man, Victor Smith received the first dose of the vaccine on January 22nd. Soon after receiving the shot, he became fatigued and experienced a fall. This is a known side effect of the vaccine. After the incident he was immediately transferred to a rehabilitation centre. Smith was still at the rehabilitation facility on the day he was scheduled to get the second dose of the vaccine.
A mix-up landed him in the hospital after getting vaccinated twice in a day.
According to his daughter, “They transported him to get his shot, and when he came back, I spoke to him, he was good.”
On the same day patient at the clinic were also scheduled for vaccination. Coincidentally, Smith shared a name with another patient causing a mix-up and led him to getting the shot twice in 4 hours. Soon after he got the first dose his body went into shock and he developed low blood pressure. “I guess a city firefighter came in [to the rehabilitation facility] and said they have a shot for Victor, and the nurse said ‘Victor Smith?’ and he said ‘Yes’ so they gave him the room number,” said the daughter. “My dad said, ‘I got two vaccines.'”
Doctors very nearly lost hope after the incident and told Smith’s daughter that he might not make it. Fortunately, his condition improved and he is now doing well.
