Pica Causes a Heart Condition in Pregnant Woman

0

A 35-year-old pregnant woman presented to the hospital with dizziness and lethargy in her 37th week of gestation. She also had a bizarre habit of eating baking soda! (a condition known as pica).

On examination, she had muscle weakness and an abnormal heart rate. Her investigations also revealed low levels of potassium, which is an important electrolyte needed for muscle functioning.

The low potassium levels explained why she was weak”

SAID DR. THOMAS MYLES, CO-AUTHOR OF THE REPORT AND A PROFESSOR OF OBSTETRICS, GYNECOLOGY, AND WOMEN’S HEALTH AT ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY IN MISSOURI.

Pica: Further investigations cause confusion

Since the doctors suspected a heart condition as the primary cause of her symptoms, they performed an echocardiogram. This showed dilation in her heart chambers, which the doctors suspected was due to peripartum cardiomyopathy. Moreover, her blood levels of creatinine kinase were abnormally high. This enzyme is raised when muscle breakdown is occurring in the body. اسرار ماكينة القمار

Induced labor: immediate need for delivery

The doctors decided to start treatment for her “alleged” heart condition and they induced early labor in the woman. Fortunately, she delivered a healthy baby. Moreover, the treatment decreased the abnormally high enzyme levels in her body. However, her potassium levels remained consistently low.

Cause finally revealed

The doctors continued to find the cause of her low potassium. Two days after giving birth the woman eventually revealed her weird eating habit: baking soda! She admitted to consuming baking soda for the past few years. Moreover, she had even taken some during her hospital stay. Baking soda had caused metabolic derangements in her body and been a hindrance in her proper treatment. ربح حقيقي من الانترنت

Treatment

She was told to quit her odd eating habit and was closely monitored by the doctors to make sure she stayed compliant. Fortunately, her potassium levels decreased just one day after she ceased consuming baking soda. This helped the doctors treat her better and soon enough they discharged her from the hospital. لعبة بوكر تكساس

Once the woman stopped her baking soda habit, it made it a lot easier to treat her.”
