In conversation with Sir Michael Palin

The RSM is thrilled to announce Sir Michael Palin will be joining us on Monday 1 June 2020. Sir Michael will be discussing his incredible television career spanning over 50 years.

Although you may know Sir Michael from his portrayal of various characters in the comedic Monty Python series (active since 1969), he has done much more in the years since. Starting in 1989 Sir Michael began a new career as a travel writer and travel documentarian. His journeys have taken him across the world, including the North and South Poles (1992), Asia, Oceania and the Americas (1997), United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean (1999), the Sahara Desert (2002), the Himalayas (2004), Central and Eastern Europe (2007), Brazil (2012), and North Korea (2018).

Sir Michael was awarded a CBE for services to television in the 2000 New Year Honours and received a knighthood in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to travel, culture and geography. From 2009–2012 he was the President of the Royal Geographical Society. And in May 2013 he was made a BAFTA fellow, the highest honour that is conferred by the organisation.

Sir Michael is a very talented actor, comedian, writer, TV presenter, composer, Sheffield legend and a true national treasure whose work has entertained generations and stood the test of time.
