Manifestation of Mycobacterium marinum Infection
This article highlights the case of a 63-year-old female patient who presented to the emergency with painful nodules on arm because of Mycobacterium marinum infection. The nodules had appeared 8 weeks ago on the patient’s arm.
On taking the patient’s history she recalled that she cut her thumb while cleaning fish for a meal. She had bought the fish from a local seafood market. العاب سباق الخيل The lesions began to develop 6 weeks after she cut her finger. However, there was no sign of fever after the incident. 4 weeks before she presented to the current clinic, the patient went to another clinic for evaluation. Doctors suspected the patient of a Sporothrix schenckii infection and prescribed her treatment with itraconazole.
The treatment did not show any improvement with the painful nodules.
Physical examination showed painful pink nodules and ulceration with hemorrhagic crusting in both arms. روليت مباشر For further evaluation, doctors advised a histopathological analysis of lesion. لعبه القمار روليت The analysis showed multiple granulomas. The specimen was further sent for culture which revealed nontuberculous mycobacterium which is found in aquatic environments.
The infection is often acquired from breaks in the skin with exposure to contaminated water. Treatment with itraconazole was stopped and she was started on a 6-month regimen of moxifloxacin, rifampin, and clarithromycin. The infection completely resolved after treatment. Similarly, there was a complete resolution of the nodules at 1-year follow up, however, with scarring.
