Camel Milk Suppresses Allergic Asthma in an Experiment

According to research on mice, camel milk could help reduce inflammation linked to allergic asthma. Scientists found that mice given camel milk showed fewer asthma-related symptoms. In addition, lower levels of airway inflammation after exposure to allergens that typically trigger allergic reactions as well.

Allergic asthma is a common form of asthma caused by the immune system overreacting to substances. They include dust mites, pollen, or pet dander. Furthermore, the condition can lead to wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing. In addition, since asthma involves chronic inflammation in the airways, researchers have been investigating natural substances. They have anti-inflammatory and immune-regulating properties that may help manage symptoms.

In the study, researchers divided thirty mice into several groups. Some mice remained healthy, while others were exposed to allergens from house dust mites to trigger asthma-like symptoms. Another group received camel milk regularly before allergen exposure. Throughout the experiment, scientists monitored airway sensitivity, lung inflammation, and immune system activity.

The findings showed that mice treated with camel milk experienced noticeably less airway inflammation and improved breathing responses. In addition, lower numbers of inflammatory immune cells, including eosinophils and T-helper cells. Both are strongly associated with allergic asthma.

In addition, camel milk reduced levels of inflammatory molecules such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. These cytokines play a major role in triggering allergic reactions and worsening asthma symptoms.

Scientists believe the positive effects may be connected to camel milk’s unique nutritional composition, which contains antioxidants, bioactive proteins, and immune-supporting compounds. However, the researchers emphasised that the study was performed only in animals. More clinical studies involving humans are needed before camel milk can be considered a reliable treatment option for allergic asthma or other inflammatory respiratory conditions.
