An Unknown Disease Kills 143 People

Reports say that an unknown disease killed 143 people in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, cough, and anaemia. However, there is very little information about the illness.

According to the press, the deaths were reported between 10th and 25th November 2024 in the Panzai health zone of Kwango province.

Deputy provincial governor Rémy Saki said,

A team of epidemiological experts is expected in the region to take samples and identify the problem,

Moreover, based on the reports by the media, WHO is aware of the situation. They sent a team for sample collection along with local health services. However, they still have to release an official statement.

Civil society leader Cephorien Manzanza said,

Panzi is a rural health zone, so there is a problem with the supply of medicines,

Furthermore, epidemiologists reported that women and children are affected most severely by the disease. However, it is still very early to conclude.
