David Gower OBE, legend of British sport, one of England cricket’s finest players and captains, and a highly regarded commentator, will be joining Professor Sir Simon Wessely for a fascinating discussion about; how he got into sport and cricket in particular, his captaincy of the England cricket team, his naturally graceful playing style, which often led his critics to describe him as casual or overly laid back, and his wildlife and conservation projects.

Often described as one of the most stylish left-handed batsmen of all time, David played 117 Test matches and 114 One Day Internationals (ODIs) scoring 8,231 and 3,170 runs, respectively. He is England’s 6th highest capped test player and 4th highest test run scorer of all time.
He also holds the record of 119 consecutive innings without registering a duck in Test cricket.
Following his retirement, David became a successful cricket commentator firstly with Channel 9 in Australia, then the BBC, and for the last 20 years as the main cricket presenter for Sky Sports.
In 2009 David was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, and in 2018, on the occasion of England’s 1000th Test David was named in the country’s greatest Test XI by the ECB.
He is the author of a number of written works on cricket, including 2 autobiographies, the first numbingly entitled by the publishers Gower The Autobiography and the second with the title he originally envisaged, An Endangered Species.
David has always harboured a love for wildlife and conservation since his upbringing in what was then Tanganyika. He is a Patron of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and in 1989 David joined David Attenborough in helping to launch the World Land Trust. He is also a patron of Tusk and Save (the Rhino).
